A couple of months ago Remi and crew (Sensible J, Dutch and mates) visited FBi, set up some drums and MPCs – and proceeded to bust out some of the freshest, funniest and most politically sharp rhymes Australia has heard in years.
These guys just kinda fell together (Remi started rapping only recently, as the result of a dare) – yet they have collectively constructed a unique sound, one that is already unlocking ears worldwide.
Overnight their hard (and high) work paid off, big time. Not only did Remi take out the award for Best Independent Hip Hop Album at the Independent Music Awards in Melbourne, he – or rather they, for the group are more than the sum of their parts – also scored the Global Music Grant, a prize of 50 grand that will help finance the band’s touring assault on Europe and the U.S. in the coming months.
It couldn’t have happened to a nicer, nor more deserving, bunch of fellas. Take a listen to the live larks below and you’ll soon agree. The sound quality’s a little rougher than usual (our loggers were down and this audio had to be rescued from an on-demand back-up) but the energy and inventiveness comes through loud and clear.
